One of the most famous attractions in Pai is the Bamboo Bridge (aka “Kho Ku So Bamboo Bridge”).
It is a 800m long bridge over endless rice fields.
How to get to Pai Bamboo Bridge?
Let’s start with where is the bamboo bridge? the bridge located 11km southwest from the center of Pai (the “walking street”), driving/riding there will take you around 25 minutes. while the first part of the road is nice and easy to ride, the second part is really not… there are a lot of sharp curves, the road is not paved and is actually a wet stones trail which is going up/down the hills.
The views on the way are beautiful but, riding it on the Honda scooter with my wife behind me was the most difficult ride I ever had.
Verify that your scooter brakes work well before that ride.
If you have some experience as bike rider, you may rent a motorcycle in Pai. Prices are from 100 baht per day for basic scooter and go higher as the scooter is newer/bigger.
If you don’t have a riding experience, I would suggest that you’ll get a Taxi from the center of Pai and not start gaining the experience on such a road.
Attractions on the way to the Bamboo Bridge
The way to the Bamboo bridge is beautiful, great views wherever you’ll turn your head to.
Anyway, on the same road to the bridge you will pass the entrance to the “Pam Bok Waterfall”, don’t forget your bathing suite as well as 400 baht per visitor and 20 baht for parking 🙂
Few minutes of riding before the waterfall, you will see a nice culm lake on the left side of the way, there are benches to seat and relax and also few swings which are a great photo op
Any restaurants on the way to the Bamboo Bridge?
Mmmm, you are in Thailand, remember? of course there are restaurants on the way to the Bamboo Bridge. You can see them on the main road and even after you’ll leave the main road, there are many small, home restaurants on the sides of the road. I find it hard to believe that anyone found himself hungry in that area 🙂
What will you see on Pai Bamboo Bridge?
A lot of rice fields, a nice little temple on the end (women should wear shirts that cover the shoulders and long pants/skirt that covers the knees).
Entry fee is 30 baht per person, keep the tickets as you will be asked to show them when you are going out.
Walking on the bridge is pretty easy, do not count on shades on the way, you will be exposed to th esun the whole trail except of few specific points on the way. There are restrooms on the trail.
We spent there 3 hours or so.
